The second last round of the African Rally Championship (ARC) is set for 23-25 September in Rwanda; dubbed the Mountain Gorilla Rally. Current ARC leader, Zambia’s Leroy Gomes, and his navigator wife Urshlla Gomes will take on Kenya’s Karan Patel and co-driver Tauseef Khan, who place second in the standings with 75points. Gomes stands at 102points.

Gomes will be looking to finish on the podium in first, second, or third place in order for him to secure the coveted African Rally Champion. In the previous rally held in Tanzania back in July, the husband and wife team finished second behind Karan Patel after suffering some difficulties throughout the event and days prior to the event after their race gear was stolen.

Representing Rwanda for the home event will be long-time rally driver Giancarlo Davite and navigator partner Sylvia Vindevogel in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X. Davite is third on the ARC standings with 38points.

Previous rallies were held in Uganda, Kenya, and Ivory Coast. The next one after Rwanda will be in Zambia and it will be the last on the calendar after South Africa cancelled it’s event.
