Team MOIL’s Yasin Nasser and co-driver Ali Katumba in their Ford Fiesta R5 won the third round of the National Rally Championship (NRC) in Hoima during the Kabalega rally that ended on June 11 in a total competitive distance of 113.47km with a total time of 1:13:02:45. The team ended day one on top on the standings and maintained that lead to come out winners of this round. Nasser keeps the lead in the NRC standings at 290 points and plans to keep that top position; he also led the premier category.
Ponsiano Lwakataka put on an impressive performance for the fans finishing in second place co-driven by Paul Musaazi in their Subaru Impreza N12B with a time of 1:15:19:30. Lwakataka had a time difference of 0:02:16:85 from Nasser. This was a really good performance for him with this as his first event this season and he really lived up to the hype and made it interesting and fun for all rally enthusiasts with his competitive nature serving him well in the event.
“Kikankane” Rally Team’s Duncan Mubiru and co-driver Joseph Bongole closed out the podium in third place in their Ford Fiesta Proto with a time of 1:17:33:65. Mubiru came from fifth place at the end of day one to a podium finish at the end of the event, an impressive feat from him maintaining a second place on the standings with 233 points.
Ronald Ssebuguzi and co-driver Anthony Mugambwa finished the event in fourth place as Umar Dauda navigated by Steven Bunya rounded out the top five. Dauda came from eighth place at the end of day one to fifth place. There were only sixteen overall finishers in this event from the thirty-two that were on the entry list.
Ibrahim Lubega and co-driver Mustapha Kanakulya won the 2WD category in their Toyota Corolla FX GT and finished seventh overall. Joshua Muwanguzi navigated by Ritah Nakigozi won the CRC category in their Subaru Impreza and the Mohammed brothers: Ali and Anees, came second, this was a good performance from the youngsters.
The division one category was won by Peter Kalule navigated by David Mwesigwa and division two was won by Mustapha Mukasa navigated by Lawrence Mwambazi.
The next NRC round will take place in July in Jinja hosted by the Eastern Motor Club (EMC).
