Team Moil’s Yasin Nasser and co-driver Ali Katumba secured their second National Rally Championship (NRC), scoring their first one back in 2019. This comes after the team scored a win in the Bam Petroleum SMC Challenge rally in Masaka; this was their fourth this win this season as they won the inaugural MCRC Mbarara rally in February, the CMC Hoima rally in June, the EMC Jinja rally in July and now the Masaka rally. The team did a total time of 1:27:02:53 in their Ford Fiesta R5 in a total competitive distance of 134.53km.
Nasser/Katumba began day two 17 seconds behind Ponsiano Lwakataka and co-driver Paul Musaazi but they began dominating day two right from the first stage and won four out of the five stages that were run that day. Team Moil will be looking to the African Rally Championship (ARC) and the Tanzania National Rally Championship where, if they come in first place, they will have made history by winning three championships simultaneously in one year. The team is headed to Burundi to compete in the fourth round on the Africa Rally Championship.
Ponsiano Lwakataka and co-driver Paul Mussazi came in second place in their Subaru Impreza N12B with a total time of 1:27:16:81; there was a time difference of 0:00:14:28 between them and Nasser/Katumba. Lwakataka won day one of the competition and he put on a spectacular performance for fans going head-to-head with a Ford Fiesta R5, finishing in front of a Ford Fiesta Proto.
Shell’s Ronald Ssebuguzi and co-driver Anthony Mugambwa finished in third place in their Ford Fiesta Proto with a total time of 1:30:25:94; Ssebuguzi had a time difference of 0:03:09:13 from Lwakataka. Ssebuguzi maintained his third place from day one and is moving up in the NRC standings.
In fourth place was Peter Kalule co-driven by David Mwesigwa in their Subaru Impreza, Kalule has had a good performance this season. Closing out the top five was Umar Dauda navigated by Steven Bunya in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6.
Ibrahim Lubega navigated by Mustapha Kanakulya won the 2WD class in their Toyota Corolla FX, Lubega is leading the 2WD category and has had a steady performance this season.
The Clubman Rally Championship (CRC) was won by Joshua Muwanguzi navigated by Mariam Nambasa in their Subaru Impreza, Ahmed Mohammed Ali navigated by brother Ahmed Mohammed Anees finished in second place and Yasser Ali Omar navigated by Yusuf Babu Jnr completed the podium in third. These young drivers are undoubtedly some of the ones to watch with their zeal and speed.
There were only nine finishers in this event out of the twenty-three that started the event.
