The Federation of Motorsport in Uganda (FMU) together with MPU Motorsport are gearing up for the third round of the Autocross championship 4*4 challenge on Sunday 12 June 2022. The event will be at Mzuri Africa Resort in Namataba where the shakedown stage of the recently completed Pearl of Africa rally was.
Entries have been coming in and according to the Clerk of Course of the event, Enoch Olinga, the entries will remain open till the day of competition before scrutineering. The competitors will pay a fee of UGX 50,000/= and fans will pay 10,000/= shillings at the entrance. Autocross serves as a starter event for drivers that want to join motorsport and it is where all professional drivers begin from. It is a stepping stone into the Clubman Rally Championship (CRC) and later the 2WD category.
The first round was held on 27 March 2022 and was organized by Southern Motor Club (SMC) sponsored by Nabisere hotel in Kalisizo. It was won by Mark Lubega and co-driver Daniel Mbabazi in their Subaru Impreza N10 at a time of 16:01.01. Ponsiano Lwakataka and co-driver Mildred Kibuuka came in second place at 16:14.04 in their Subaru N12. Closing out the top three was Mike Mukula Jr. and co-driver Edward Kiyinji at 16:27.13.
Other drivers that took part in the first round were Andy Musoke co-driven by Aaron Nsamba in a Mitsubishi Evo6, they were fourth with 17:10.13. Fred Busuulwa Kitaka co-driven by Joseph Bongole in their Subaru N14, they came in fifth place neck and neck with Musoke with a time of 17:10.13; just a five seconds difference between them. Muhammad Bwete and co-driver Muhammad Kavuma also competed as well as Julius Semambo co-driven by Diana Nagawa.
The second round of Autocross did not take place, which was meant to be organized by MOSAC. In the entries received so far, these are some of the drivers: Sabiti Muyanja co-driven by Mathias Kiyega in a Toyota FX, Muhammad Bwete co-driven by Shakira Nabwami in a Mitsubishi Evo7, Mike Mukula Jr. co-driven by Edward Kiyinji in a Subaru Impreza, Mark Lubega co-driven by Daniel Mbabazi in a Subaru Impreza, NRC champion Yasin Nasser co-driven by Ali Katumba in a Subaru Impreza, Mustapha Mukasa co-driven by Mildred Kibuuka also in a Subaru Impreza, Mukasa Musa co-driven by Lawrence Mwambazi in a Subaru Impreza, Okello Moses co-driven by Ismail Musoke in a Toyota Vitz, Allan Were co-driven by Nakanwaji Khuzainat, and Hajji Gasemba co-driven by Kaluya Brown Peter in a Subaru Impreza. It will be exciting to see which drivers come out on top in this round, as they gear up for the fourth round of the National Rally Championship in Fort Potral coming up in July.
