Round five of the Kenyan motocross championship took off Sunday 20th June at Jamuhuri Race Park with very few selected fans as is the new norm with covid-19 protocol but it was a good one.
It kicked off early in the morning with competitions in the coveted MX 65cc category, Dylan Hatanga swept his competition in all heats coming through with a clean sixty points and the winner in this category. Coming in at second was Thuku Waweru with forty points, Kigeri Mutuma in the third position with thirty-nine points.
Kenya hosted Ugandan riders as guests and they did not disappoint; in the MX 65 category, Jonathan Katende put on a good performance coming fourth in heat one, fourth in heat two, and coming in hot leading heat three in the first position, giving him second position overall. Jamairah Makumbi finished in the eleventh position.
There were three competitive categories; in the MX 85cc, Tanav Choda came through with a total of fifty-seven points in the first place, Neo Wahoma with forty-eight points in second, Natalie Cherono in third with forty-seven points. Uganda’s Jerome Mubiru carried the eighth position at eleven years.
In the day’s most popular category, the MX 50, Kenya is known for its great 50cc riders, like Lewis Ogonyi, and Atete Benzige, who gave a splendid performance as expected however their Ugandan counterpart Miguel Katende did not hold anything back, ready to take a stand, he came in second in heat one, for heat two came through as number one and held that position in the last heat, getting himself a standing ovation from the fans. Ogonyi came in first, Benzige second, and Wahome Mutahi came in third on the Kenyan roster. Uganda’s Ashram Makumbi came in twelfth position and Ally Kimera in thirteenth place also competed in this category.
The thanksgiving ceremony was not done due to the covid restrictions but all the riders all put on a show for their fans.
