The sixth National Rally Championship (NRC) round is underway in Gomba. As the first day of competition ended, Ponsiano Lwakataka and co-driver Paul Musaazi were in first place in their Subaru Impreza N12. Lwakataka did a time of 0:31:32.57. This is the first time a rally has taken place in Gomba, the event will cover a total competitive distance of 141km. Lwakataka has not been as present this season but in the events he has competed in, the fans have had a treat watching him.
Shell’s Ronald Ssebuguzi and co-driver Anthony Mugambwa came in second place in their Ford Fiesta Proto with a time of 0:33:05.95. Closing out the top three was Joshua Muwanguzi and co-driver Asuman Muhammad in their Subaru Impreza; Muwanguzi has had an incredible season and will be among the ones to watch as he proceeds to next season. Muwanguzi led the CRC class.
This event had few competitors, with only fifteen drivers on the start list for day one and only nine finishers. The 2WD class was led by Samuel Watendwa and co-driver Robert Katabalwa in their Toyota FX.
Ali Omar and his co-driver brother Wazir Ali Omar finished second in the Clubman Rally Championship (CRC) class, the brothers are new in the motor rallying field but not in motorsport, they are a staple in motocross as they hold their own with their counterparts. Day two will take place in Sembabule on Sunday, October 22.
