The first day of the CMC Kabalega rally in Hoima is the third round of the National Rally Championship (NRC), ended with MOIL’s Yasin Nasser and co-driver Ali Katumba, in their Ford Fiesta R5 as the day one winners with a time of 0:38:26:10.
Day one started with a flag-off ceremony in the morning then drivers proceeded to the very first stage. Nasser and co-driver Katumba won three stages in the day; SS2, SS3, and SSS4A. The car suffered some issues in the very last circuit round but the team still finished ahead of everyone else, the team is determined to keep the lead position.
Ponsiano Lwakataka and co-driver Paul Musaazi finished second in their Subaru Impreza N12B with a time of 0:39:54:20. They had a time difference of 0:01:28:10 from Nasser/Katumba and the team also won the first and last stages of the day (SS1 & SSS4B). Lwakataka did not disappoint and had fans cheering him on, as he brings the full energy and speed which makes him one of the favorites to watch.
Ronald Ssebuguzi and co-driver Anthony Mugambwa finished third in their Ford Fiesta Proto with a time of 0:41:07:84. The Shell-sponsored team finished second in the last stage and third in SS3 and SSS4A. They kept a really good pace throughout the day which served the team well.
In fourth place was Hassan Alwi Jr and co-driver Musa Nsubuga in their Subaru Impreza and closing out the top five was Duncan Mubiru and co-driver Joseph Bongole in their Ford Fiesta Proto.
With an impressive debut for this season were youngsters Ali Mohammed navigated by his brother Ahmed Anees Mohammed, they finished in seventh place in their Subaru Impreza. This was a really impressive start for the brothers who are following in their father’s footsteps (Dr Ashraf Ahmed).
Missing from the competition were Byron Rugomoka, Mike Mukula Jr., Peter Businge, and Adam Rauf who many fans were hoping to watch.
Day two, which is the final day of the competition will cover 59.28km and everyone is looking forward to seeing who will finish in the top three spots.
