The penultimate stage on the Motocross (MX) calendar took place in Kaliisizo-Masaka on Sunday, 08 October at the E-Villas track (it is the second time Masaka has hosted a motocross event this year/season). The riders in their particular classes came ready to claim season championships and podium places; the Federation of Motorsport Clubs Uganda (FMU) together with the Southern Motor Club (SMC) hosted the event.
Gift Tabula Ssebuguzi further cemented his prowess after leading all heats in the 85cc class, collecting 60 points, making him the 85cc champion this season. Tabula has had an incredible ride this season nationally and internationally and he has an incredibly bright future in motocross and beyond. Ron Young finished in second place with 49 points as Jerome Mubiru closed out the podium for the class with 45 points. Young and Mubiru have been going back and forth with each other throughout the season making an interesting fight for the one that will take the second place this season.
In the 65cc class, Miguel Katende swept through all three heats taking first place position, the youngster has achieved so much this year after representing Uganda in the MXOAN FIM Africa that took place in South Africa back in August and the 2023 FIM Junior Motocross World Championship in Romania that happened in July. Miguel is the one to watch as his drive and competitive nature will serve him well as he keeps going in his already bright career. Jonathan Katende finished in second place with 51 points, Miguel’s brother has also had a great season this year and should not be counted out. Ramathan Mubiru finished in third with 45 points; Mubiru has had a good season as well. This class has always got the most number of riders out of any other class.
Jude Kyle Musede won all three heats in the 50cc class and has had a really interesting and fun competition with Jamairah Makumbi, who finished in second place with 51 points. Jamairah has been a good representation of females in motocross this season and last season. Faith Deedan Aine came in third place with 41 points. Hellena Birungi led the 50cc Junior class with 60 points after winning all three heats, Birungi has also had a good season and has led through consistency. Janan Makumbi came in second and Ariella Katende closed out the podium in third.
Fan-favorite and seasoned rider Maxime Van Pee swept the MX 1 class in all heats collecting all 60 points, he has not been as active this season but when he is on track, he is unmatched. Ashim Sserwada came in second place with 51 points and Isma Makumbi in third. Fatuh Kiggundu was fourth and Mutebi Najib was fifth. In the MX 2 class, Sharifah Kateete came out in first place and Mukiibi Jordan in second; they were the only riders in the class.
Milton Akaki is still number one in the MX 125cc, he came out first in the class and Waleed Omar came close behind him in second place. In the Vets class, Kayiira Geoffrey was the lead, as Ashraf Mbabazi came in second. In third place was George Juncture Sserugunda, who unfortunately passed away after the event. He suffered a freak accident in the safety site lap before the third competitive heat as communicated by the DVP Motorcycling, may his soul rest in peace.
