The KCB Voi rally took place on the weekend of August 8th. 2021 saw Karan Patel and co-driver Tauseef Khan win the rally in their Ford Fiesta R5 at a total time of 1:54:11.7. This was his first win on the KNRC board. Even though spectators were banned from the event due to an increase in covid-19 cases in Kenya, they put on a really strong show throughout the event. He survived some early scares in the first stage, trailing from fourth to come out on top.
Behind Karan was Baldev Charger who had dominated since the start of the rally, winning four stages; Charger and his co-driver Soni Ravi in their Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 came in second place with a slight time difference of forty-seven seconds behind Patel in a total time of 1:54:59.1. Charger, first on the road, was in colourful spirit and excited the fans with his drifting in the Onkar Rai’s WRC3 power GTI, also winning the power stage.
Carl “Flash” Tundo and co-driver Timothy Jessop came in third place with a total time of 1:55:57. For this rally, Tundo returned in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X R4, a different approach from before.
In fourth place was Jasmeet Chana navigated by Ravinder Chana in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X with a time of 2:08:26 and closing out the top five was Virani Aakif navigated by Bhatti Azhar in their Skoda Fabia R5 with a total time 2:10:39.
Uganda’s Hassan Alwi took part in the rally, navigated by Kenya’s Riyaz Ismail, in his Subaru Impreza WRX STi 4 D. He came in ninth with a total time of 2:32:10.
Over twenty drivers signed up for the event which was running through the beautiful scenery of Taita hills, Taveta count, Tsavo, Kasigau and Maungu ranches where the drivers had a field day racing through the rough terrains. Notable retirements from the event were; Ian Duncan with gearbox issues, Eric Bengi, and Amwari Issa with a broken suspension.
Table leader Onkar Rai and his brother Tejveer Rai missed out still recovering from the accident he had in the Safari rally. Onkar Rai had the lead on the KNRC standings with seventy-three points after the Safari rally.
