The fourth round of the Federation of Motorsport Uganda (FMU) National Motocross Championship took place over the Independence weekend on October 9, 2021 at the Victoria Race Way Park; the event was organized by the Southern Motor Club (SMC). The event kicked off a bit late with the MX 50 cc juniors (peewee) and seniors. For the mx 50, it was Jamairah Makumbi’s show. She won two of the three heats and came in third in the last heat after a bad fall in the first corner; she won the category with 55points. She is the lead in the ladies category as well with no competition. Not letting her off the hook was Filbert Muwonge, who battled it out with the others and won the last heat and came in second in the first and second heats. He put on a show and overall came in second place with 54points. Jamairah and Filbert had some of the biggest fans in the race together with the Katende brothers and it was really entertaining to witness. In third place was Ethan James Blick with 47points, he keeps on improving and growing. In the MX 50 Junior, Abigail Katende won all three heats and was winner once again with 60points as Faith Deedan Angel came in second place with 51points.
In the MX 125, Kylan Wekesa was in extra ordinary shape winning all three heats, he put on a great show as he embraced Arthur Blick Jr at the end of all the competition, both standing on the number one spot on the podium. Kylan raced with Veterans as classes were combined due to time constraints. Milton Akena Obote came in second place and Shadia Kateete came in third place. She keeps on improving as she holds her own still being the only female in this category. This family of the Kateete siblings should be given credit for producing female riders that are holding their own in these motocross competitions.
Arthur Blick Jr dominated the Veterans category right from the start and won all heats; Christian Milletti came in second place with 49points, Abdul Damba came in third place after returning to the sport from a five year hiatus and in fourth place was Andrea Marinelli. The veterans gave a good performance and kept up with the youngsters making an entertaining show.
The MX 85 was one of the anticipated categories of the day and also the most competitive, however Jerome Mubiru proved he didn’t come to play! He came out the winner of the category, winning all heats and holding onto his number one position in the class. In second place was Tony Benders, who also held on steadfast on the track and closely behind him in third place was Keith Deedan Aine with 43points. Shamila Kateete, the only female in this category, was overall fourth in this round.
Alestair Blick Jr won all three heats in the MX 1 category; celebrating his 18th birthday in style, winning a ticket from Uganda Airlines as the winner in the MX 1; and in second place was Michael Ntailo. Maxime Van Pee didn’t take part in this round because he was out of the country in Botswana. In the MX 2, Robert Jjingo came out the winner with 54points after Paddy Roldin Blick scored a DNF in the last heat. Jjingo had been second in the first and second heats. In second place was Sharifah Kateete with 47points, who won herself a ticket to Dubai from Uganda Airlines being the sole winner in MX 2 ladies category. In third place was Paddy Blick who had led the first and second heats but had a DNF in the last one.
There was a special race at the end of the competitive categories for the mothers of the riders and women in motorsport in providing awareness for Breast cancer through early detection and Leila Mayanja, the secretary of FMU was pronounced the winner followed by Noella Blick the mother to the Blick siblings.
