The National Rally Championship (NRC) is headed to Eastern Uganda for its second round, going through Jinja city to Iganga to Kaliro running from 11th to 13th March 2022. The Eastern Motor Club (EMC) is hosting the event alongside the Federation of Motorsport Uganda (FMU) dubbed the Kaliro Sugar EMC rally.

With forty seven entries, covering a competitive distance of 124.33km, rally fans are excited for this rally as it has so much to look forward to. The Captain Mike Mukula Sr. is returning to the motorsport racing track! He is racing a Subaru Impreza N14; he has been absent from the motor sporting world for over a decade. We don’t know if he will continue on for the rest of the rally calendar but fans are eager to see him back. Mukula’s son, Mike Mukula Jr. co-driven by Edward Kiyinji is also going to take part in a Subaru Impreza N12b. Fans are waiting to see how the son will measure up to his father.

Fresh from his ARC podium finish, Yasin Nasser and co-driver Ali Katumba are back in competition in the NRC in their Subaru Impreza GVB. Yasin has not competed in the NRC since 2020 in the Jinja rally, he is a former NRC champion and ARC2 champion from his third place finish in the championship last year. He is going up against 2021 NRC champion Duncan Mubiru navigated by Musa Nsubuga, for the first time racing a Ford Fiesta. Many fans are looking forward to seeing how the champion will fair with the rest after his horrible accident in Mbarara.
Looking to score their first points in the season are drivers like Hassan Alwi navigated by Joseph Kamya in their Subaru Impreza N14, Rajiv Ruparelia navigated by Enoch Olinga in their VW Polo, Kepher Walubi- who is hoping to represent the East navigated by George Ssemakula in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X among others.
Ponsiano Lwakataka navigated by Paul Musaazi in their Subaru Impreza N12B are hoping to defend their number one position from their win in the Mbarara rally back in January as well as Ibrahim Lubega navigated by Shakira Nabwami in a Toyota Corolla FX GT, and Edward Kirumira currently leading the 2WD class navigated by Robert Katabalwa in a Toyota Curren along with Fred Busuulwa Kitaka navigated by Joseph Bongole in a Subaru Impreza N10.
The rally kicks off with srutineering on Friday, March 11, 2022 then will kick off from Source of the Nile hotel in Jinja city on Saturday morning and go through Iganga with five special stages culminating off in the super special stage in Nakalama truck parking yard, then will move to Kaliro on Sunday where it will end in the sponsors Kaliro Sugar section.
