The fifth round on the National Rally Championship (NRC) is scheduled to take place 5-7 August 2022 in the Greater Masaka region, in areas of Bwera and Sembabule. The event dubbed the Bwera Bistro SMC Rally has closed its entries at thirty-one drivers and all are looking to podium finishes in the different categories.
Drivers are gearing up to battle it out yet again in the Greater Masaka region with Southern Motor Club (SMC) hosting the event. Scrutineering is scheduled for Friday, August 5, 2022 at Don Petrol station opposite Club Ambiance-Masaka. Drivers are looking to get back at it as the championship nears its close.
For drivers like current leader on the NRC standings, Ponsiano Lwakataka, this event is extra special as he was born and raised in the Masaka region. He is definitely looking for a win after he retired in Fort Portal on day one due to engine issues.
This is also an extra special one for returning driver Fred Wampamba, driving for the first time this season after a brief retirement. He is back in a Subaru Impreza N14 navigated by Samuel Mugisha.
Hassan Alwi Jr. is also back in a Subaru Impreza N14 looking to put up a fight after an entertaining performance in the sprint at Garuga for the “Bring Back Dusty” fundraiser.
After their retirement in the Atlantic rally of Tanzania, Pili Pili rally team will also take part in this event. Jas Mangat and co-driver Joseph Kamya are set to race their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X along other staples like Duncan Mubiru, 2WD leader Oscar Ntambi, Ibrahim Lubega, Ronald Sebuguzi, Fred Busulwa Kitaka, Umar Dauda and rising star, Mark Lubega among others.
Missing out on the event will be fan-favorite and a sure contender in rallying today, Mike Mukula Jr. who suffered a personal loss with his wife. He will surely be missed due to his incredible speed on events.
Sponsors of the event include; SMK tires, Rock boom, Mariaflo hotel, Rose foam mattresses, Bwera lounge, Nican hotel, Roke telecom among others. The event that will follow after the Greater Masaka event will be in September in Mityana.
