Uganda Excels in Round One of the FIM East and Central Africa Motocross Challenge (CAC) at Busiika

The FIM East and Central Africa motocross Challenge (CAC) was held over the Easter weekend at the Extreme Adventure Park at Busiika and Uganda dominated and outshined its counterparts. Kenya is the only foreign country that participated.

Team Uganda pulled no punches throughout all the heats that were run scoring a sum total of 1627 points while Kenya scored 495. The regional championship title was defended well by Ugandan riders who performed excellently in their respective classes as Uganda has won the CAC title six years in a row. This also served as round three of the national motocross championship.

Back in great shape after recovering from a foot injury, he suffered back in March was Miguel Katende in the 65cc class, the energetic youngster won all three heats collecting 60 points in the class that had the most entries. This was a triumphant return for Katende as he defends that championship title. In second place was Ramathan Mubiru with 45 points who came in second in the first and third heat and fifth in the second heat. Jonathan Katende closed out the podium in third also with 45 points after he came in fourth in the first heat, second in the second heat, and third in heat three. Kenya’s Kigen Mutuma finished in fifth place.

Fan-favorite Gift Ssebuguzi won all three heats in the 85cc class with 60 points; Ssebuguzi had the loudest cheers from fans as the African champion in 85cc as he weaved through the track overlapping his competitors. In second place was Mutahi Wahome from Kenya and Lewis Ogonyi in third, also from Kenya. Jerome Mubiru scored a fourth-place finish adding to the points Ssebuguzi collected.

Apollo Milton Obote Akaki dominated the 125cc class winning all three heats, the youngster put on a good performance throughout which paid off for him. Mawanda Jeremiah came in second place and Kreidah Nsubuga came in third. There were no Kenyan riders in this class.

In the MX 1 class, Fatuh Kiggundu came in first place with 60 points, Mukiibi Isma in second, and Mungai Wagithuku in third (they were the only competitors). In the MX 2 class, Wazir Omar finished in first place collecting 57 points, Alex Kandie of Kenya came in second place, and Masalule Kituyi in third. Rohan Ghandi was fourth, Jordan Mukiibi was fifth, Mahad Junior was sixth, and Allan Allema was seventh.

Honorable Jimmy Akena was the only rider in the Master’s class. In the Vets class, Kayiira Geoffrey finished in the first place, Ashraf Mbabazi in second, and Juncture George in third, these were the only riders in this class.

In the youngest classes, Hellena Birungi finished first in the 50cc junior category, Ashina Faith Mbabazi in second, and Mark Kugonza in third. In the 50cc, Jude Kyle Musedde collected all 60 points, Berry Notea came in second, and Jamairah Makumbi represented the ladies and finished third. There was a fan sprint in the evening which was won by Duncan Mubiru and co-driver Joseph Bongole in a time of 0:07:55:50 in their Ford Fiesta.
