Moil rally team’s Yasin Nasser lands a huge sponsor in Uganda Airlines for the upcoming Pearl of Africa rally. The 2019 national rally champion and crew broke the news at their headquarters in Banda on Wednesday, 04 May.
The national carrier public relations manager, Shakim Rahim Lamar told the press that, “Sponsoring Yasin and Ali who are already champions at home and regional, is monumental for Uganda Airlines. We thought we should be part of the winning team. We mark this as the beginning of the new chapter with the team by supporting them to travel and support Uganda abroad.”
This upcoming rally will be Nasser and Katumba’s first local event in two years as the team focused on taking part in the African Rally Championship mainly, where they finished second behind Kenya’s Carl Tundo and co-driver Tim Jessop last year, participating in five of the six events, finishing with ninety-six points. A tremendous achievement for the team, the motorsport fraternity of Uganda, and Uganda as a whole.
Nasser expressed his gratitude to the Airlines saying, “I would like to thank Uganda Airlines for this opportunity, they have been working with us in the back side but have decided to come out officially to sponsor us for pearl rally. This sponsorship will go towards our upcoming events in Tanzania and other ARC events in form of tickets.”
Nasser and co-driver Ali Katumba gave a great performance in the last pearl of Africa rally in 2019 where they finished second overall behind Kenya’s Singh Baryan and co-driver Drew Sturrock. They did a total time of 2:16:07.8 and fans are looking forward to seeing how they will perform on the rally’s return. Nasser, when asked about the upcoming event said, “The event is going to be a bit competitive, with the R5’s around and all crews highly expectant of top positions. We can only hope for a top five position although finishing the event is the priority for us.”
Nasser, in car number 60, will be in a Subaru Impreza GVB and one of two Ugandan teams competing in the ARC alongside the foreign crews.
