Carl Tundo Edges Out Patel To Win The Machakos Rally.

The KCB Machakos rally round five took place over the weekend at the Lisa Farm. The event that started off with scrutineering on Saturday, saw Carl Tundo win the rally on Sunday, 29th August, 2021. The event was flagged off by KCB’s Kenneth Limo Torotritch.

The one day event had a competitive distance of 143.42km, and Tundo alongside his co-driver Timothy Jessop in their Mitsubishi Evolution 10, won the rally in a total time of 1:31:42 with their new Top Fry sponsors. Tundo showed off his skillful prowess when he came through in the last sections and took the lead after Patel suffered two punctures late in the rally.

Filmico racing’s Karan Patel had held onto the first position throughout the beginning of the rally in the mornings, neck and neck with Baldev Charger for the start but Tundo pushed passed him in the last super special stage in Kenjoro and in the power stage of the same name. Patel and his co-driver Tauseef Khan, in their Ford Fiesta, came in second place at a total time of 1:33:04.

Clenching in behind Patel in third place, and his first podium finish, was Greenlife motorsport’s Evans Kavisi alongside his co-driver Absolom Aswani, in their Mitsubishi Evolution 10 at a time of 1:37:39.

Arrow rally team’s Aakif Virani navigated by Azhar Bhatti in their Skoda Fabia came in on the tail of Kavisi at 1:37:51, behind by only twelve seconds and rounding out the top five was the WRC/FIA Rally stars programs youngster Jeremy Wahome navigated by Victor Oukundi in a Ford Fiesta at 1:39:53. Jeremy is proving to be a worthy competitor given the times he is putting in as he racks up experience racing with already experienced drivers. His sister Maxine Wahome, also took part in the event, and she came in tenth place in a Subaru Impreza, navigated by Linet Ayuko. The event which was supposed to be held earlier in March of this year, was pushed to last weekend over the covid 19 pandemic, and the spectators were banned from the event. The event did not go without some dramatic scenes, as Jasmeet Chana with his navigator brother Ravi Chana hit a zebra in the last stages but came out sixth overall.

Baldev Charger alongside co-driver Ravi Soni retired in the morning with a broken shock in their VW Polo. Also to retire from the event were Hamza Anwar with co-driver Riyaz Ismail with a broken rear and Dilraj Chatteh and his co-driver Gurdeep Panesar. There are four events left on the KNRC calendar.
